Settling Mars will require dramatic advances in Biotech, Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Energy and many other areas. The Mars Technology Institute will develop these technologies, and commercialize them for use on Earth. This will benefit the home planet while generating the revenue needed to create still more inventions in new areas of science and technology. Our ultimate goal is to create a network of new technology companies, with collectively both the know-how, and the financial power to enable the human settlement of the Red Planet.

RED PLANET LIVE is a monthly live podcast from The Mars Society--Ashton Zeth interviews the people instrumental in exploring and settling Mars. The show will focus on a wide variety of topics, including Mars and space exploration, STEM education, technology, women in science, and much more, with exciting and open discussions involving experts in these respective fields. Ashton Zeth is the host of the Mars Society's video podcast Red Planet Live. She serves as a Mars Society Ambassador and is a long-time space enthusiast with a background in strategic communications, sales, business development and public speaking.

In light of recent achievements in space and our continued efforts as a species to get humans on to the surface of the red planet, the Mars Society is thrilled to release an inspiring new song that celebrates the work of the pioneers of Mars and hopes to inspire us to strive even harder. The idea for the song came up, three months into the covid-19 lockdown, when Opera singer Oscar Castellino in a chat with British artist Linda Shanson in London realized that they could be halfway to Mars, if their home that they were confined to was a spaceship.

The first episode of Mars Talk was recorded on Friday, April 12th and is hosted by Christopher Tarantola from the Mars Society’s Chapter & Outreach team. Christopher is joined by two co-hosts: James Burk, the Society’s IT Director and organizer of the Seattle chapter, and Lucinda Offer, the Society’s Executive Director and organizer of the UK chapter. Christopher, James, and Lucinda provide commentary on the recent NASA return to the moon announcements, SpaceX & Boeing’s commercial crew activity, the recent Falcon Heavy launch of ArabSat-6A, Israel’s SpaceIL mission to land on the Moon, India’s anti-satellite test and its aftermath, and several other current space-related news items. In addition, Lucinda provides an introduction to the Mars Society and the recent projects and activities done by our worldwide network of chapters.

This 7-minute film was produced by the Mars Society to provide a close-up look at the organization's two long-running Mars surface simulation programs - The Mars Desert Research Station (MDRS) in southern Utah and The Flashline Mars Arctic Research Station (FMARS) in northern Canada. The film revolves around the recently completed twin Mars 160 mission, which took place initially at MDRS in 2016 and later at FMARS in 2017. The Mars Society would like to extend special appreciation to the creators of the new film - Jennifer Holt, an Emmy award-winning producer/editor and dedicated Mars advocate, Anastasiya Stepanova, crew journalist for the Mars 160 mission, and James Burk, the Mars Society’s IT Director, along with Dr. Shannon Rupert, the Mars 160 Principal Investigator and overall inspiration for the mission, and the entire Mars 160 crew and support staff.

Each year, for the past 10 years, student engineering teams from around the world have been preparing themselves for 12 months of designing and building the next generation of Mars Rovers. These student teams compete in an annual competition, held at the Mars Desert Research Station in Hanksville, Utah, called the University Rover Challenge. The journey of URC for engineering students is an extremely difficult task but out of it, they receive valuable experience with very rewarding results. This documentary video is meant to raise awareness for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) education, and to showcase the hard work that engineering students put in to designing and building Mars Rovers that may one day work alongside human explorers in the field. The Mars Society Presents: University Rover Challenge 2015 University students from all around the world get the opportunity to design and build the next generation of Mars rovers that could one day work alongside human explorers in the field. This year marks the first year for Protocase to come on board and assist the students from Universities all around the world competing in the 2015 challenge. Protocase helped students by giving precision-design guidelines and helpful design tools to assist them with the fabrication of their mars rovers. However, it all comes down to one weekend on May 28th – 30th in Hanksville, Utah. Teams will put all their hard work and effort to the test for a chance to become one of the world’s most elite University robotics teams.

Achieving a human mission to Mars has been a fascination of humanity for some time. In the 1990s, Dr. Robert Zubrin proposed the "Mars Direct" mission architecture, using conventional rockets and Mars in-situ resources to establish a sustained human presence on Mars. Now, with the nation debating how to proceed with human space exploration, the "Mars Direct" plan is more relevant than ever: Can Americans reach the Red Planet in our time? Robert Zubrin, formerly a staff engineer at Lockheed Martin Astronautics in Denver, is now president of his own company, Pioneer Astronautics. He is a Fellow of the British Interplanetary Society and former Chairman of the Executive Committee of the National Space Society. He is the founder of the Mars Society; an international organization dedicated to furthering the exploration and settlement of Mars by both public and private means.
